History of the Bidet

The bidet originally came from France. It is an invention for hygienic purposes dating back to 1710. The first bidet was made up of a covered container which holds the water and a handy stool that supported it. Long before, bidet was situated in the bedroom. But modernization in plumbing brought it to the bathroom where we see it now.

The advancement in bidet technology proved that there is more to a simple container and a handy stool for support. Today, different kinds of electronic bidets are invented. These latest kinds provide more convenience for they are made with built-in sensors, anti-bacterial material, automatic controls and other high-tech features. And not only that, bidet now also comes in different forms. There are bidets that are attached to the toilet itself, bidets that are made separately and there are the nozzle types, too.

Since the time it was invented, bidet became a part of the “bathroom necessities”. But despite the fact that many countries like Japan, France, Argentina and the many other countries in Europe that use bidet, most Americans still refuse to use one. In fact, there are some Americans who do not even know the difference between a toilet and a bidet. And there are also some who do not even know what bidet is. Most Americans use the shower than the tub to clean themselves everyday. And the Americans too, prefer to use toilet paper in cleaning their private parts after using the toilet. Hence, the importance of the use of bidet is not much of an issue. On the other hand, many people from around the globe, including some Americans, are embracing the fact that bidet is an important tool not only in maintaining a proper hygiene, but also in maintaining a health that is free from any diseases.
